Marcel Vonk is een wetenschapper met een voorliefde voor poker. In 2010 won hij een bracelet op de World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Hij was daarmee de eerste Nederlander die een no-limit hold’em toernooi op zijn naam schreef tijdens de WSOP. Hij schreef diverse boeken over de snaartheorie. In zijn nieuwste boek ‘Race tegen de schildpad‘ behandelt hij gedachte-experimenten in de theorieën van ruimte en tijd, zwarte gaten, thermodynamica, en quantummechanica.
